License terms
Last updated October 16, 2026
These terms cover your use of PipeHat (the "software"), at pipehat.io and in any copy we provide. By using the software, you agree to them. "We" means PipeHat; "you" means the person or organization using it.
1. The Free version
You may use the Free version at no charge, for any lawful purpose, including at work. It decodes the first 10 messages of any input and de-identifies one message at a time.
2. Paid licenses
- What you get. A paid license gives you a license key that unlocks the features of your plan (Pro, Team or Business) for the term of the license.
- Users. Pro covers 1 named user, Team up to 5 and Business up to 20. Each user enters the key in their own browser. Don't share a key with more people than it covers, or outside your organization.
- Term. Licenses last one year from purchase and don't renew automatically. The software reminds you 30 days before expiry and keeps working for 14 days after, then reverts to the Free version until a renewed key is entered.
- Delivery. We email your key after payment, usually within one business day.
- Price. You pay the price shown at checkout. We may change prices for future purchases and renewals.
3. No refunds
All sales are final, and fees are non-refundable once a license key has been issued, except where the law requires otherwise. Please try the Free version before buying.
4. What you may not do
- Remove or work around the license check, or change the software to unlock features you haven't paid for.
- Resell, rent or redistribute the software or license keys.
- Copy the software's reference data (such as its version structures or code tables) out of it to build a competing product.
5. Your data
The software runs on your computer, and we never receive the messages you open in it (see our privacy policy). You're responsible for your data and for using the software in line with your organization's policies and the law, including the rules that apply to protected health information.
6. Checks, flags and de-identification
- The software helps you read and check messages. It doesn't replace the HL7 standard, your interface specifications or professional judgment, and it isn't for clinical decision-making.
- The sensitive information check flags possible sensitive values; it can miss some and flag others wrongly. Review findings against your own policies.
- The de-identifier can miss identifiers in unexpected places. Review the output before sharing it. Using it isn't a formal HIPAA de-identification determination.
- None of this is legal advice.
7. Reference data and trademarks
The software includes reference data from third parties, listed on the notices page with their licenses. HL7® and HEALTH LEVEL SEVEN® are registered trademarks of Health Level Seven International; their use does not constitute endorsement by HL7. PipeHat is not affiliated with HL7 International.
8. Disclaimer
The software is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise it will be error-free or that every problem in a message will be found.
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or revenue. Our total liability for any claim relating to the software is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Ending these terms
If you break these terms, we may end your license. You can stop using the software at any time.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. The version on this page applies from the date above; licenses already bought keep the plan, users and term they were sold with.
